Growing interest for a local Friends of the Earth group..

Friends of the Earth

Yuki Ortega writes (24/6/2010):

I am currently working for Friends of the Earth and we’ve recently had interest from people in Ipswich in our environmental campaigning work. As such we’re interested in finding more like-minded people in the area with a view to setting up a local group to campaign at a grassroots level. There are currently 220 local groups around the country working on a variety of local, national and international environmental issues.

Friends of the Earth is campaigning for a new meat and dairy law. The meat and dairy industry produces more climate-changing emissions than all the planes, cars and lorries on the planet. It’s all down to a hidden chain that links animals in British factory farms to rainforest destruction in South America. This Food Chain Campaign aims to stop factory farming trashing the planet and encourage a planet-friendlier form of farming. As for April this year more than 30,000 people and a third of MPs have backed the campaign (www.fixthefoodchain.com) This summer our local groups will be campaigning for the Sustainable Livestock  Bill to become law. We’ll be spreading the word at festivals, local events, farmer’s markets in the Ipswich to garner support from local residents in Ipswich.

Anyone interested can contact my colleague Tom Wright on 020 7566 1673.
