Each year, a large number of toads migrate across Bobbits Lane to reach the pools in the wet meadows where they can breed. Although Bobbits Lane is not a public highway, there is quite a bit of traffic along the lane with: the Anglian Water tankers and vans going to & from the sewage works, people visiting their allotments on the Belstead Allotment field, people parking in the car park, and residents of the small number of private houses.

The migration of toads across Bobbits Lane is likely to happen around February-March, however the timing depends very much on temperature and humidity.

Last year we moved 6889 toads to safety.
